“But our feet are terribly small, and as rabbits we would probably not stay as rabbits if we fell in the river!” said the littlest rabbit.
“Did the beavers ever come back after they built that wall thingy?” asked the white rabbit of the swan.
“They do indeed, now and again, just to check that the river iss sstill held up by their wall, which ssometimess it issn't. If there happened to be a bit missssing, ussuallly because thiss sside of the river iss bigger than that sside, the beaverss would happily go about putting another bit where the misssing bit ussed to be”, said the swan.
“Oh I see” said the white rabbit whose mind was rapidly closing in on an evolutionary theory involving walls, rivers, digging, burrowing and moving drink running through the meadow which as yet did not happen. Where upon the littlest rabbit shyly asked the swan if it would be at all possible for a lift on her back to the other side of he river. The other rabbits who by now were still amazed at the view they saw, which they had never seen before thus keeping them silent in awe, suddenly perked up their ears on hearing the littlest rabbit's suggestion, which in turn made the swan perk up her ears.
“I ssupposse I could” droned the swan. The littlest rabbit went on to say “No I should explain first, you see, a little while back down the river we took a vote about which direction to take, where it was decided that we as rabbits should continue along the river in an effort to look for a way to get to the other side, and looking at that wall, it seems that it would be far safer to hop on your back to achieve our aim”.
“I ssee” said the swan, “and what might a vote be?”
